pedagogy
Use these strategies to set the tone and purpose for what you read, what you write, and what you discuss, and integrate with previous grades' knowledge and interdisciplinary content:
absence of threat
meaningful content
choices
adequate time
enriched environment
collaboration
immediate feedback
mastery application
Each day should include 1 of each type of question as the focus for instruction and to match standards:
EXPLICIT (the answer is "right there" in the text -- it is explained in the text) i.e. WHAT'S THE AUTHOR SAYING?
IMPLICIT (the answer is "implied" -- can be inferred, is "between the lines") i.e. HOW'S THE AUTHOR SAYING IT?
APPLIED/Open-Ended (go "beyond the text" and apply what you have learned) i.e. WHAT'S THE AUTHOR REALLY TRYING TO SAY?
Literary Analysis of reading and for writing includes:
Plot Chart Identification (exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action and denouement)
Literary Elements Identification (genre, point of view, mood, theme, rhythmic devices -- alliteration, repetition, onomatopoeia and assonance, figurative language -- simile, metaphor, personification, and hyperbole, sensory imagery and symbolism)
DIAGNOSTIC -- FORMATIVE -- SUMMATIVE
ASSESSMENTS ARE BUILT INTO EACH UNIT!
